Angry Birds Go! – the tetchy avians are getting their own racing game?

I’ve spoken on many an occasion, as I’m sure you remember, about how I’m a fan of Angry Birds. A certain section of gamers may hate it, because in their worldview ‘casual gamers’ are the bane of existence, but I don’t care, because it’s immensely good fun, and isn’t that kind of the point of video games, really?

Anyway, the point is that there’s a new Angry Birds game coming, and it’s not one that comes across like a re-skinned Crush The Castle. No sirree bobby, this time, it looks like it’s actually going to be a racing game. According to developer Rovio, it’s called Angry Birds Go!, and yes, it really is looking like it’s gonna be a racing game. The engine noise on the teaser page is kind of a giveaway…

I have to say that I’m rather intrigued by that idea. I can guarantee that it’ll turn out to be more like Mario Kart than Gran Turismo, of course, but the key to any racing game is the sensation of speed. I can’t see that being a problem, though, ‘cos modern smartphones pack some real wallop in the processor department, and I can’t imagine phones like the iPhone 5 or the Samsung Galaxy S4 having a problem running a rather chuffing speedy racer.

After all, I’ve played Riptide GP on my One X, into which HTC stuck an Nvidia Tegra 3, and it plays beautifully, and more recent phones drub the One X in terms of performance. Combine that with a less graphically intensive game (which I guarantee Angry Birds Go! will be), and you’ve got the potential for a really rather fun game.

Time will tell, of course, but this one could be worth keeping a close eye on…

About TechnicalMarkus

It's a little known fact Technical Markus has now beaten both his Transformers addiction AND his Mass Effect addiction, by replacing both with an equally obsessive addiction to XCOM: Enemy Unknown and buying Humble Bundles for his Android phone. At the moment, he's pondering the actual usefulness of smartwatches and smart glasses, even if the nerd in him is shouting for joy at how sci-fi they are. He spends his spare time being whinged at to figure out what's wrong with other people's mobile phones, and drinking unimaginable quantities of tea. With milk. And three sweeteners, thanks for asking. Oh, and he's got an HTC One X, but he reckons his next phone might be a Sony, the turncoat...
