Now then, this is a story I like. It’s not a story about one of the big boys, somebody like HTC or the juggernaut that is Samsung; it is, instead, a story about the triumph of the little guy. Specifically, it’s the story of a design student from Middlesex University, one Kieron-Scott Woodhouse, who got bored with all the smartphones on the market, and decided to come up with his own idea for his own unique smartphone. The unique bit?
The body’s made out of bamboo.
So, he designed the phone in his spare time, and posted the designs up online, to show people what he’d been up to. But then, something brilliant happened…
Basically an entrepreneur in the tech world got in touch with Woodhouse, and the two teamed up to form a company. The end result? The phone, called the ADZero Bamboo, is actually going on sale!
I tell ya, I would love to get my hands on one of these (and yes, I’ve signed up on their website, to try and get hold of an early beta… what can I say, I’m shameless when I see a phone I like), ‘cos it looks gorgeous, and I’m dying to know what’s under the hood. There’s no words on what the specs might be, but it’s got a nice big screen, and a camera (no word on the resolution, though, sorry) with a purportedly unique “ring flash” that surrounds the entire lens, plus it’s running on Android.
[Side note: I've contacted ADZero, to see if I can find out the specs of the Bamboo, and I'll update this post if and when they get back to me. Not that I'm excited or anything.]
So, there’s a high chance it could be a beast of a phone. Maybe not as powerful a beast as something like the HTC Sensation XE, obviously, but then… the Sensation XE doesn’t have that unique gimmick of being made of specially treated, four year old bamboo.
So yeah. I really hope this takes off, ‘cos it’ll be an awesome story of the little guy triumphing, and let’s face it… if it can get a jaded, cynical old git like me excited (when normally, it’s just HTC phones that manage to do that), there’s gotta be something worth checking out, here…
