New Acer touch phones officially go on saleD’ya want to know something weird? I could’ve sworn that Acer’s brand new range of mobile phones had already gone on sale. I really have no idea whether I was getting them confused with the earlier models they were selling, of whether my memory circuits were just doing some weird glitchy thing, but I had honestly, somehow, got it into my head that Acer’s new smartphone ranges (the beTouch and neoTouch ranges) were already on sale.

Isn’t that bizarre?

Anyway, it’s no longer an issue, since according to Acer’s own press release, the beTouch and neoTouch ranges have, now, actually gone on sale. But what are they like? Are they actually any good? Weeeeeeell, yes, they are, and there’s a good reason for that. Y’see, both of these two new product lines have something in common, and it’s actually quite a big “something”.

Both the beTouch and the neoTouch phones are running on Windows Mobile 6.5, making them some of the first new phones out of the gate with WinMo 6.5 already installed. Even the lower spec beTouch phones have got it, like their entry-level model, the Acer beTouch E100. Entry-level smartphones are always nice to see, and it’s especially nice to see it with the brand new version of Windows Mobile.

However, the more exciting of the two product ranges is definitely neoTouch, since it currently only contains one phone, which is also called the neoTouch, and that one phone is rather more high-end. And when I say high-end, I mean “it’s got a Snapdragon processor and a screen that’s at least half an inch bigger than the beTouch E100″.

Yep, the Acer neoTouch is their flagship phone, and it certainly shows in the specs. That screen is just half an inch bigger than the E100 (hence, coming in at 3.8 inches), but it’s also full WVGA resolution, giving it four times as many pixels on screen as its baby sibling, making everything look all sharp and nice. Factor in the Snapdragon processor, and you’ve got something quite special. Not, admittedly, as special as the upcoming HTC HD2 (but then, what is?), but a damn fine phone, I’d say.

Plus, y’know, the Acer brand name is a bit well-known, from the world of laptops, so that’s going to help them sell…
