Well, it’s not gone official yet, but the word over at Pocket Lint, is that the Blackberry Storm (the new, official name for what was known as the Thunder), the world’s first ever touchscreen Blackberry mobile phone, is due to unleashed on the UK before the end of October.
And it’s looking like it’s going to be an exclusive on Vodafone.
So, what we’re looking at is a launch date some time before November, so that the Blackberry Storm is set to take the world of mobile phones by storm (HA! Get it?) in time for Christmas. Hmmmmm, yup, I can easily see this baby being on a lot of people’s Christmas lists! Also, we’re due to be getting an official unveiling from RIM (the ones who make Blackberry mobile phones), at the start of October, where we’ll presumably get final specs, release info and a release date.
The thing is, though, the Blackberry Storm isn’t going to have things all its own way this Christmas. Not only has it got the threat of the iPhone 3G (a phone it was specifically built to go up against), but the ever-growing range of touchscreen mobile phones that are popping into existence, more and more frequently.
Realistically, it’s going to have to take on the Samsung i900 Omnia, the LG KC910 Renoir, and the Sony Ericsson X1… and that’s before I’ve even mentioned the HTC Touch HD. One things for sure, with all these touchscreen mobile phones rocking up to the party, it’s going to be a hell of a scrap for the top spot.
So, you’ve got the Blackberry Storm with its clicky, moving screen. You’ve got the Sony Ericsson X1 with its ‘panel interface’. You’ve got the Omnia, that everybody seems to want, and the LG KC910 Renoir with that 8MP camera. And in the realm of massive screens, you’ve got the iPhone 3G (on pay as you go, as well) and the HTC Touch HD, with the biggest screen in christendom.
So, some time round October, let the brawling for the Christmas number 1 spot begin!
