Samsung U900 Soul vs LG Secret Black - FIGHT!I hate it when I get grilled, in the pub, about mobile phones, especially, when I don’t yet know the answer they want. Occasionally, though, someone does ask an important question, that makes me go, “Ooh, I hadn’t thought of that.”

So, a big thanks to the random bloke who asked me: Which is better? The Samsung U900 Soul or the LG Secret Black?

That’s actually a really good question, since they’re pretty evenly matched, and quite clearly rivals. Look at the evidence: both slidephones, both about the same size, both 5 megapixels, both with loads of media features, both with touch-responsive panels to navigate round the menus, both are designed using more exotic materials than run of the mill mobile phones…

The more I thought about it, the more I realised this is going to be a damn good shoot-out, as we’ve got loads of areas we can compare these two mobile phones on. So, without further ado, it’s time for war. It’s time for the Samsung U900 Soul and the LG Secret Black to fight to the death!

secret and soul camerasLet’s start with one of the obvious main features, the camera. Both the Samsung U900 Soul AND the LG Secret Black have got 5 megapixels, and in truth, there’s not a massive amount to choose between the two, in terms of picture quality. Both these mobile phones have got brilliant cameras, but the LG Secret Black manages to edge in front, thanks to the addition of slow-motion AND high-speed video (and marginally better picture quality), something the Samsung U900 Soul just can’t match.

1-0 to the LG, then…

Next up, usability, and the LG Secret Black has got a secret (Ha! Get it?!) weapon here: touchscreen. Albeit a limited-functionality touchscreen. Ok, you can only use it in the media browser, but that still is a useful and cool little feature. Not many mobile phones have got that… but both of these beauties have a main touch-based nav-panel under the main screen, so we should judge them on that, as well. And it’s not good for the LG Secret Black, because despite its touchscreen functionality, as well, the touch-panel on the Samsung U900 Soul utterly slaughters it. In fact, on the Samsung U900 Soul, the touch panel is better than all other mobile phones I’ve ever come across, being responsive, slick, and useable by even the most ham-fisted people (i.e. me)!

1 all, then…

However, now we come to the important one: desirability. When it comes down to it, factoring in the features, and the looks of both mobile phones, which one floats your boat more? The Samsung U900 Soul, or the LG Secret Black?

Well, they both have exotic materials in them, carbon fibre for the LG Secret Black, and brushed metal for the Samsung U900 Soul. But the Samsung U900 Soul is the winner, because quite frankly, I haven’t seen any mobile phone as sexy as it is! It’s just mouth-watering, and of the two, there’s no doubt, the Samsung is the one I’d have.

Let’s face it, though, whether you choose the Samsung U900 Soul or the LG Secret Black, you’ll get one hell of a phone. It’s just that the Samsung U900 Soul is slightly more of a hell of a phone…
