Nokia’s brand new touchscreen mobile phone spotted in The Dark Knight

Holy mobile phones, Batman!

Batman, the Dark Knight, has high-tech gadgets, right? We’ve all seen him using them, right back form the old comics, through the Adam West era, up to the latest film, The Dark Knight. Well, they have in America, it’s not been released over here yet. However, the big phone-related buzz about the new film is not the fact that Nokia paid who knows how much to get their mobile phones into it, or the fact that there is a Nokia Dark Knight Edition mobile phone on the way.

The big news is exactly what Nokia mobile phone we get to see in The Dark Knight (according to Engadget Mobile), because it’s one that’s not even been released yet, but which everyone seems to be talking about.

Or, to put it another way, it’s the Nokia 5800 Xpress, better known round the internet as the ‘Tube’. And why is it special? It’s Nokia’s first mobile phone to use the brand new S60 Touch interface. Yep, that’s right, it’s Nokia’s first attempt at an iPhone-Killer. Not that anyone’s going to care about that, because this is the Batman film that EVERYONE’s waiting to see, not least because it’s the last film Heath Ledger (aka/ Heath Ledger, best version of Joker ever, even better than Jack Nicholson, if that’s possible) was in before his tragic, untimely death.

Sorry, I got carried away about the film, instead of talking about mobile phones in it… Well, we know for sure (thanks to eagle-eyed American viewers, since we haven’t got it over here yet… have I mentioned that?) that the Nokia presently-known-as-Tube-but-soon-to-be-known-as-5800-XpressMedia is in it, apparently used by Morgan Freeman’s character. Presumably Bruce Wayne/Batman himself will have a mobile phone, although given his propensity for Bat-gadgets, he probably bat-built his bat-mobile phone himself.

Out of bats.

Ten quid says he’s got a Nokia N95 8Gb, though…

Still, imagine how much Nokia paid to get their mobile phones used by Batman himself. I reckon it’s a safe bet what’ll be showing on all of Gotham City’s billboards…
