We’ve been offering customers a chance to win an iPod when they leave a review of their phone on MobileShop.com.

And to prove that this is a genuine competition – we’re pleased to announce the second winner. And the winner… is… Sophie Phillips!

Sophie won the iPod after reviewing her Samsung Genio Slide – awarding it a seven out of ten.

When told that she was going to be the proud owner of a brand new iPod, Sophie said was very happy but very shocked.

“I’m really happy to have won an iPod, especially just for giving an opinion. Usually I give it free of charge,” she said.

Sophie said that while she loved the Genio slide with its quick internet connection and browsing capabilities (Facebook was mentioned at this point I might add), she was a little disappointed that BBC iPlayer still does not work on it. The battery life also knocked the phone’s mark down.

However, Sophie said she could not mark the phone too harshly as it combined a QWERTY keyboard with a touchscreen and was ideal for people who want to go on the internet.

As for her iPod, our winner declared that the first song she is going to listen to on it will either be one by the Gorillaz, who are one of her “faves” or an Ian Brown track, and that pleases me no end since he’s one of my all-time heroes.

Sophie follows in the footsteps of previous winner Mr Kershaw (he was a bit more reserved than Sophie) who rated his pink Samsung C3050 five out of ten.

And if you want to enter this month’s prize draw all you have to do is write a review for a phone, rate it out of ten, include your name and address, and then wait to see if your luck’s in.

It’s very incredibly simple to leave a review. All you have to do is follow these instructions:-

1. Go to any page on the main site, and look on the navigation bar on the left hand side of the page. Click on the bright green box.

2. Fill the form in leaving your email, the phone you’re reviewing, a rating and a short explanation of why it scores that mark.

We want the reviews to give people a little insight into what you think about them; it may stop someone from wasting money on a howler or push them towards the mobile phone for them. The review does not need to be massive – a paragraph or two will do. For example, I could give my scratched Nokia 6500 seven out of ten. I could then say the reasons being it looks nice (or it did before I got my mucky, clumsy mits on it), has a more than adequate camera, is great for browsing the internet and Facebook-ing friends on the bus; but it has been fairly flaky and sometimes dies on me momentarily for no known reason.

Rule number three: Keep your comments clean and useful. Make sure criticism is constructive, rather than just moaning “it’s rubbish” without explaining why. What is an issue for you, may be on no consequence to someone else.

Your reviews are flooding in to MobileShop HQ so I’ve decided to take the time to drum up even more reviews. And, of course, remind you that if you do send in a review you stand a chance of winning a lovely iPod.

All you have to do to is leave a mobile phone review on MobileShop.com, you’ll automatically be entered into a prize draw with the lucky winner getting, yes you’ve guessed it an iPod.

To keep the prize draw theme going, I picked three phones out of my ‘top mobile phone’ hat and had a quick browse of the huge library of mobile phone pages in our Pay Monthly section to see what reviews had been left for them so far.

The first phone I looked at was the Samsung Tocco Lite which had been rated nine times. You’d given the Tocco Lite an average score of 7.6 our of ten, with four people giving it top marks! However, not everyone’s a fan of the affordable touchscreen phone with two people giving it a mere two stars our of ten. Harsh scoring GG and John, while I don’t think it’s a ten out of ten phone, I’d give it five more stars than that (that’s seven TechnicalMarkus, hehe).

Next up was the LG Cookie, the phone that some people compare to the Samsung Tocco Lite. The LG Cookie, aka the LG KP500, currently has an average score of 7.2, indicating that there was an LG – Samsung battle taking place, Samsung may be just edging it at the minute. Not only is the average star rating lower but the LG Cookie also failed to get a perfect ten stars out of ten, with a high score of nine given by Grace, Jesiah and Rubina. At the other end of the scale Lex thought that the touchscreen phone only deserved a two out of ten.

Finally, the Blackberry Bold 9700. The smartphone led the way with a very tidy 8.6 stars out of ten. We say that the Bold 9700 offers the “classic Blackberry experience” with its QWERTY keypad, handy optical track pad and touchscreen interface. And it seems you agree, it so far has four people rating it ten stars out of ten (that’s you Sophie, Kirtsine, Ifan and Hazel). Its lowest rating comes from Bola who gave the Bold 9700 an uninspiring five stars.

The May Day bank holiday is almost here and I know you’ll have lots of free time on your hands – a spare five minutes at least between going to the seaside, the pub, the supermarket, doing some spring cleaning and visiting the folks (or is that just me?!).

Getting to the point – what better way to spend those spare five minutes than entering a competition to win a spanking, brand new iPod.

So, what can we expect from m’new pal Lizzy? Well, for starters, you can expect reasonable, unbiased commentary. I think. Mind you, considering she’ll be writing alongside me, it’s going to be very easy for her to sound unbiased, she just needs to not be like me. Oh, and having read her first blog post already, and because she’s a girl (she said that, not me), expect things like, er, frocks. I will, however, fight to the last breath if she starts throwing scatter cushions about the blog, and lighting candles. We men don’t understand those things. Sorry.

Soooooooo, everyone give a big welcome to our newest contributor, TechnoLiz, and I hope you enjoy her posts as much as I do. And this year, the meaning of Christmas is ‘I FINALLY GOT AN X1 XPERIA! HAHAHAHAHAHA!‘

Oh, alright, it can be about peace and love, and families coming together too. So, as we all head home from work, to go for the big Christmas burn (which involves eating turkey until it comes out your ears, and enough sprouts to make a Force 10 hurricane), everybody here at Mobileshop wants to wish every single one of you out there the bestest, happiest and most funnestest (I may have made that word up…) Christmas in the history of christendom.
